Hands-On Workshops

This program helps students acquire a basic knowledge of the art of drumming, singing, and dancing from Africa, South America, and the Caribbean. Using an array of authentic instruments and traditional dance steps, we involve students in participatory sessions where they learn the essential elements of these art forms. (Grade Level: First through College)

Artists in Residence

Similar to the workshop project, although more advanced musically and academically, students gain a more in-depth understanding of the history, sociology, politics, language, and geography of other cultures.

They also learn complete orchestrations of various music/dance selections. These classes are long term—one semester or year-long—offered on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. (Grade Level: Third through College)

Team Teaching Workshops

These workshops are designed so that students learn both drumming and dancing in any one session. (Grade Level: Third through College)

Teacher In-Service

This program is offered to instructors who are seeking a unique approach to teaching African, Caribbean, and Brazilian music and dance. Using authentic instruments, we provide a framework that teachers can use to successfully educate their students.

Along with the concept and technique of music and dance, we include study methods, learning tools, discographies, and other resource materials. Day-long sessions. (Teaching Level: First through College)

Youth Ensemble

Imagine students representing their school as they tour other schools and communities, while performing traditional music and dance from around the world.

This program offers workshop instruction in various cultural art forms, and teaches how orchestrated selections are staged and presented in a concert format. These year-long sessions are offered on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. (Grade Level: Fourth through Twelfth)
